Public Internet access for Great Cranberry Island
The Maine Community Foundation kindly sponsored a great deal of rural travel expenses and program sponsorships in 2007. This gift when combined with technology donations and our own fundraising efforts provided more than 20 Internet Access stations that were distributed to 5 small public libraries in parts of Maine where access was almost completely unavailable.
This involved a terrific trip to the Island aboard the mail boat (I'm an avid fair-weather mariner anyway) in February - and as the snow began to fall, I realized I'd never been out on the ocean during a snow storm. After a meeting with some of the historical society/library volunteers we installed the computer in the library, connected it to the new MSLN sponsored T1 connection and off they went.
