Who would you recommend for Internet Service?
This is a tricky question - not because there aren't good reputable services out there. Maine's vast geography and rural demographics make it tough to know whether your home is in an ISP's (Internet Service Provider) service area.
You will have to find out if these ISP's provide service at your address on your own - but here is our preferred list of providers:
Time Warner Cable (Roadrunner) - available in much of Central, Midcoast, Downeast and Northern Maine. Very fast, consistant, somewhat expensive (about $50/month)

Comcast Cable - very fast and consistant. Excellant cost for cable service. Avalability mostly in Southern Maine.
Fairpoint New England - Ok DSL speeds, available in many areas, moderate cost (about $30/month) Customer service is poor.

RedZone Wireless - Limited availability throughout parts of Maine. Great Dial up alternative for tight budgets. No quality or service opinions yet.

GWI DSL - Available pretty much anywhere this was originally a Biddeford, ME based company that has grown alot. Service quality is reported to be decent, cost is average. Decent DSL speeds.
LocalNET Dial Up - Best around for Dial-up Internet, if you have a telephone - you can get it - only $9.95/mo. We've recommended them for years and they've never let us down. Dial up is very slow compared to DSL and cable - but if they aren't available LocalNET is the best choice.
There are many other providers - these are just the ones we have had long standing experiences with, or have heard good things about from people we trust.
PLEASE NOTE: Costs for these services vary a great deal and if they offer "promotional rates" - these rates will almost always be temporary/short term. Always keep your Internet needs in balance with what you can afford.
